I am trained in specific trauma-focused therapies including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and child-directed trauma-focused play therapy.
I work with those affected by trauma at all ages and tailor my treatment to meet their needs and each individual’s developmental level. I am experienced in helping my clients overcome grief, natural disasters, physical and sexual abuse, neglect, community violence, car accidents, and placement in foster care.
I am skilled at diagnosing and treating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as adjustment disorders stemming from previous distressing experiences. Effects of trauma can vary widely between individuals and can vary depending on developmental level at which the trauma occurred.
I can assess individuals of all ages regarding their symptoms that may or may not be related to trauma and am skilled at addressing these difficulties with different ages.
Many adults have difficult experiences in their past that they have tried to forget, though unsuccessfully so. I can help you to cope with the anxieties that arise when you do remember or retell your experiences and help you to get to a place where your past no longer controls your feelings.
I understand that this can often be a scary and overwhelming process, which is why I use the most evidence-based treatment approaches as well as spend time building up your coping skills before getting started.
Losing someone or even something we love can make us feel frozen in time, numb in our feelings, or overwhelmed with emotions such as sadness or anger. I can help children, adolescents, and adults to move through this painful process of grieving.
Sometimes it is a lost loved one that brings on this process of difficult grief, while other times it may be the loss of something greatly important to us such as the end of a career or the loss of a skill or ability we once had.
I work to help you or your child to gain control over your past and to move forward being stronger and more aware of yourself.
